As we introduce the 10th issue of MAGNIFY, our journey continues to celebrate and amplify the voices of empowered women of colour in STEM. This issue marks another step in our ongoing mission to spotlight the remarkable accomplishments of these extraordinary individuals.
With great pleasure, we welcome you to the 10th issue of MAGNIFY, a milestone in our journey to celebrate the incredible achievements and contributions of women of colour in STEM. As we reflect on the path we’ve travelled, we are inspired by the countless stories of resilience, innovation, and empowerment that have graced our pages.
In this special edition, we delve into the multifaceted world of STEM mothers, featuring an insightful interview with Dr. Fateme Akhlaghi, a remarkable scientist who balances the demands of motherhood and a thriving STEM career. We shine a spotlight on our Ambassador, Yesha Ketankumar Desai, whose passion for advocacy has made a lasting impact. The Big Sisters STEM Story introduces us to Professor Devanshi Seth, an academic trailblazer.
Our Volunteer Spotlight highlights the dedication of Suga Gunathilake, while the Cultural Intelligence segment explores the depths of Japanese culture. We unveil the journeys of Nee Edirisinghe and A/Prof Meru Sheel in the My STEM PhD and another Big Sisters STEM Story, respectively.
This issue also marks the debut of our new section, “Nature and STEM: The Lotus Effect,” where we explore the fascinating phenomena of the natural world through a scientific lens.
The Arts Corner invites you to a conversation with Dr. Sepideh Foroutan, showcasing the artistic side of STEM. Finally, we celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit of women of colour with a compelling conversation featuring Anh Van and Melody Wu.

As we celebrate the 10th issue of MAGNIFY, I reflect on the incredible journey that has brought us to this milestone. What started as a vision to amplify the voices of women of colour in STEM has grown into a vibrant, empowering community.
Over the past editions, we’ve shared the stories of inspiring women who’ve shattered barriers, challenged stereotypes, and made their mark in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. We’ve explored the intersection of culture, diversity, and STEM, shedding light on the unique experiences and contributions of women from diverse backgrounds.
In this special issue, we continue our mission to empower and inspire. We feature interviews with remarkable women who’ve excelled in academia, industry, and entrepreneurship. We delve into the wonders of nature and its profound connection to STEM, uncovering the hidden phenomena that shape our world. We celebrate the strength and resilience of STEM mothers who balance their careers with the joys of motherhood.
